I visited Skippool Creek, near Thornton-Cleveleys last weekend. It’s a great place for painting. They call it a boat graveyard and if you go, you’ll see why. It’s scattered with old hulls and ramshackle jetties. I sketched my composition from the edge of the water and had just started blocking in the sky when I realised I was a bit too close! The water was lapping up next to my easel so I had to retreat about 20 feet and attempt to finish the painting from there. I managed to get some of what I wanted but the angles had changed and I was getting tired, so I left it there. I’ll go back another day but find a better spot!
